What started out as a great weather-weekend of swimming, ended up being a heavy rain-filled afternoon with a missed session and finals.  A tough decision was made to cancel Sunday afternoon session and Finals - it was a challenge for the swimmers and their families,.but safety for our children is always first!  This meet, again, proved to be the best way to finish up a Championship Spring Season.  Great racing, phenomenal first time swims and best times that are hard to believe!  Check out PYPresults and look at how amazing these kids are!

SPA Fall Invitational     results     

Fall swimming has begun and that means heading to St. Petersburg!  As always, we were graciously welcomed and the children were amazing to watch.  Coach Laurie and Coach Andrew provided great technical support and Dr. Neri was brilliant in her work at "ground control" - Coach Lisa returned to the helm on Sunday from Chicago, where she represented PYP for 4 days as the FL Age Group Chairman at the USA Swimming National Convention.  We are very excited to have so many new Piranhas from our Hernando, North Pinellas and Palm Harbor Branches - Look forward to seeing you all again!

Friday night storms kept us out of the water until almost 6:00... but when the sun came out the kids were ready to swim - fast!  SPA ordered a beautiful sunrise for Saturday morning, but we did have a storm cell come through around 10:00.. no rain, but some typical FL thunder and lightning!  Back in the pool and more fast times... phenomenal first time swims... 118 Personal Best swims, 8 Individual Records, New JO, SR champ and Y-National cuts.

This was a great weekend in Gainesville... and our new PYP outfitting seemed to fit right in! 

Andrew Belcik's last 10&Under meet was a great one!  He finished 1st Place in:  200 Free, 200 IM, 50 Back, 100 Back, 100 Free, 100 Fly  -  2nd Place in:  50 Fly, 50 Free  -  3rd Place in 100 IM  and earned FIRST PLACE HIGH POINT.   Turning 11 is not going to be a problem for Andrew, he already has quite a few 11-12 JO Cuts!

2008 National YMCA Long Course Championship

Day 1: We arrived at Tampa Airport, flew with our TYS friends to Baltimore, rented vans, drove through hail and a thunderstorm (go figure) and tried to check into our hotel... not ready... went to lunch, the grocery store, then checked in!  Headed to the pool... beautiful facility... came out to find our driver window shattered.  :(

Got a new car!  What a day...  Day 2: 5 hour YMCA Principles in Swimming and Diving Class... Coaches Meeting... another Coaches Meeting and during all that fun.. the kids had another opportunity to train.  That evening we headed to Washington DC... Cheesecake Factory!  The travel back and forth was "interesting" - thanks to Justin's blueline... we made it home safely!  Day 3: First day of swimming!  Preliminaries were amazing - 4 for 4 - Best times for everyone. Found Maryland CRAB CAKES-they rocked!  Justin dropped 6 seconds in his 400 Free (4:22.68)  Amanda dropped time in her 200 IM (2:33.17) Blake dropped almost 4 seconds in his 200 IM (2:19.23) JD shaved off more time in his 50 Free (26.03) and moved from 121st to 61st.  Day 4: Justin dropped 4 seconds in his 200 Free (2:00.93) moved from 54th to 31st. Blake swam a best time in his 100 Fly (1:02.81).  Day 5: Blake dropped 6 seconds in his 400 IM (4:55.95) tied for 17th... scheduled to do a swim off, but the other swimmer got scared and went home!  Amanda dropped over 4 seconds in her 200 Back (2:30.95) Justin had 2 best times in 50 Fly and 100 Free.  Day 6: Blake dropped 4 seconds in his 200 Fly (2:14.92) Amanda had another personal best in her 100 Breast (1:20.35).          RESULTS       www.ymcaswimminganddiving.org

PH YMCA hosted Special Olympics Swim Meet - Saturday, July 12th 

Many thanks to the volunteers that helped make this day special.  What a great group of athletes that showed their spirit and determination working toward their goal of swimming at the FL Special Olympic Games.  We are thrilled to have been able to provide this practice meet on their way to greatness.  The next Special Olympics Swim Meet is scheduled August 23rd at Highlander Pool in Dunedin.  Make a difference... These are just a few of the words heard throughout the weekend on the pool deck of the 2008 YMCA State Championship Swim Meet in Orlando!  Piranhas came from our YMCAs in Clearwater, North Pinellas and Palm Harbor to work as a PYP team to earn stacks and stacks of medals and ribbons!  Congratulations to the following swimmers earning Gold - Silver and Bronze Medals finishing in the top 3:

Coach Lisa Bitting (PH) is awarded ASCA LEVEL 4 Certification!

ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association) evaluates the success of each registered coach and awards a Level Certification.  ASCA Levels range from 1-5.  Coach Lisa is now included in a very elite group of coaches. (only 5-8% of the coaches in the USA are Level 4) Congrats on a job well done and to the future!

Piranhas helps 54 Swimmers from 9 High Schools find success in 1A, 2A and 3A District-Region-State Championships!
