PYP Meet Details
PYP
Meets
This type of meet is fun for everyone!
This is the first step toward participating in all levels of racing. All of our PYP branches come together at one location to get to know each other and to "test the water" for racing. There is typically no fee to participate, but rather an opportunity to support your team through volunteering, donations and sponsorship.
YMCA
Meets
We love our YMCA meets! PYP is part of a larger family of YMCA teams throughout the United States. Locally, we have great swimming relationships with our YMCA friends at TYS-Tampa YMCA and SYS-Sarasota YMCA. These meets are "closed" - meaning only swimmers from YMCAs may participate.
YMCA Dual Meet - This type of meet is held between 2 YMCA teams. There may be a small fee for participation, but again looking to our families for your participation through volunteering, donations and sponsorship.
YMCA State Meet - This meet is open to all YMCAs in Florida. This is our favorite meet of the year! The environment on and off the pool deck is full of positive energy and support for all levels of swimmer. There are entry fees for participation and for each event in this type of meet. There are no qualifying times for this meet, however, each swimmers must have participated in YMCA Dual Meets. YMCA Short Course Championship Meet is held in February and development has begun for a YMCA Long Course Championship in July.
YMCA National Meet - This meet is open to all YMCAs in the United States. There are qualifying requirements of times achieved and YMCA Dual/State participation. This is a PYP Team Travel meet and our swimmers earn funds for participation and travel expenses through fund raising, donations and sponsorship.
YMCA Short Course Nationals is held in March (2009-Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and YMCA Long Course Nationals in July (2009-Baltimore, MD).
Florida
Swimming Sanctioned Meets
Teams throughout Florida host meets at their locations as Invitational or Closed Meets. These meets range from 1 day, 2 days or 3 day meets. You can decide, with the help of your coach, how many and what events to swim. You do not have to swim all 3 days of a meet, sometimes it is actually best to start with 1 day and gradually add events as the swimmer becomes more comfortable in that competitive environment.
There are typically no qualifying times for these meets and have entry fees for participation and for each event.
Some of the teams that have hosted meets that PYP has attended include: SPA, TYS, WFLA, CAT, GSC, SYS... and more. The address for each of these pools can be found in MEET INFO. Googe Maps is also there to enter your address and "cut and paste" the address of the pool and get directions from your home!
